Once while I was traveling to work, I saw a guy with headphones on. I thought he was just listening to and enjoying music. My curious mind peeked on his phone and realized he was playing a mobile game about cats and a house. I became curious and thought to ask my sister about it since she loves cats. That’s when I was introduced to the game Adorable Home. I downloaded the game and tried to play it. I wasted my time through this quarantine period playing the game.
Basically, Adorable Home is a game about building and designing a home. As someone who’s not really a fan of some mobile games, I thought it was rather simple. The key to building the house from the living room up to the bedroom is by playing with cats and collecting their love. It is essential to strategically allocate love to buy more cats, as most love comes from them. Players can then use love to buy the necessary provisions in order to make the house loveable and unlock other parts of the home.
Once you have bought cats, you can play with them by bathing them, cutting their nails, and stroking them. Commonly, you can get 80 love for each activity, but you can watch ads to double it. In my case, I like bathing cats the most. I just put the shower head in the middle and continuously press it to control the temperature.
Despite its simplicity compared with some of the most played games such as Mobile Legends, Adorable Home taught me some things. Three things, in fact. The first one is building a home. It might be cliché to say this, but the very foundation of a home is love. Without love, it is nothing. Like what they always say, you must prepare more for the marriage than for the wedding. To create an adorable home, you must surround it with love. In the game, as simple as it is, love comes from playing and adoring your cat, preparing your partner’s meals, and the thought you give into designing the home. You also have visitors who give love. You can also choose between heterosexual and same-sex couples depending on your preference.
The second one is designing the home. In order to unlock other parts of the home and buy furniture, it comes with a cost. Love was used here as a currency. It also applies in reality. If you want a house, you must invest in it, and it comes with a price. To make it livable, you need to have the necessary appliances or furniture such as a bed and a sofa, among other things. You can make it simpler or grander. If you try to look at social media groups like Adorable Home Worldwide, people post pictures of their work. Some are beginners and others have already designed their home well. Just look at it at as practice for when you want to create and design your own house in the future.
The third one is living at home. While playing the game, I observed how it was to live there. You can choose to play with the cat, collect more love, and buy the things that you need. Or you can just play with them and save more love to buy grander furniture, or just simply not spend it. Playing the game also reflects your values in life. You are either into living a lavish life or into living a modest one.
Another important idea is also reflected in the game. If you choose to change your partner, you must pay at least 1,000 love and reselect your characters. But the first statement in the game tells you another thing: “It’s not easy to be with each other. Break the relationship should pay the price!” Some of the visitors also steal things, warning us that not everyone is trustworthy. These visitors include the penguin who steals the black air conditioner (as my sister told me). That’s why I never bought it. Try to buy it and see what happens.
So, it may seem that the game is full of contradictions, but it’s a representation of how our society is now. You can build a foundation from love, spend and invest money to build a house and live a life based on your preference. However, issues or glitches will always arise, and the home will change either for better or for worse. In order to build your home, you must make decisions in life. It may be good or bad, but it’s all up you. Like other games, Adorable Home balances educating yourself with having fun.
